Capablanca

Jose Raul Capablanca was world chess champion in the 1920’s. By most accounts he was a chess prodigy, incredibly fast, and with a crushing, intuitive end-game. He’s the best Cuban chess player ever, and he’s considered one of the best in the world ever.

I took up chess during my college years. I filled a whole notebook with annotated games against my portable chess computer. Not too long ago I came across the notebook and I was amused at some of my notes of frustration on the margins of the pages as I tried to progress up the levels against the computer. A few books improved my game considerably, but ultimately I dedicated myself to art. I still enjoy an occasional game against the app on my phone or a human opponent when I can find one.
